Oct 3, 2011 - BP Wind Energy, part of oil major BP (LON:BP), today unveiled plans to build a 419-MW wind power plant in the US state of Kansas worth some USD 800 million (EUR 599m).
The Flat Ridge 2 project will include 262 units of GE 1.6-MW wind turbines. Initial site construction work can start as early as the fourth quarter of 2011 if BP Wind secures all necessary permits to proceed, the company said. The project is to come on stream by the end of 2012.
BP Wind has struck a long-term power purchase agreement with Associated Electric Cooperative Inc for 314 MW of the facility's capacity. It is looking to sell the remaining capacity to companies from the region.
