Borssele I&II offshore wind project gets all turbines lined up at sea

Installation of all turbines for the 752-MW Borssele I&II offshore wind farm project in Dutch waters has been completed.

Announcing the milestone on Wednesday, Belgium-based marine engineer DEME Offshore said the installation of 94 units of 8-MW machines took less than five months. The first turbine was erected in April 2020.

The project also represents a commercial debut for SG 8.0-167 DD turbines made by Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy SA (BME:SGRE).

The Borssele developer, Danish energy group Ørsted SA (CPH:ORSTED), launched construction in January 2020. Since then, the company navigated milestones, such the installation of foundations, all array cables and now turbines, during the COVID-19 pandemic without any infections among staff, Henrik Egholm, Ørsted’s EPC director for the project highlighted.
