Borealis to supply Finnish sites with 20 MW of wind from Ilmatar Energy

Austrian chemicals and fertilizers producer Borealis will buy the output of over 20 MW of wind turbines in Finland under off-take deals with local wind farm operator Ilmatar Energy.

The companies have signed two power purchase agreements (PPAs) that will see Ilmatar Energy supply the electricity generated by around four wind turbines to Borealis’ production sites in Porvoo, Finland. The move will allow the Vienna-based group to lift to 13% the share of renewables in its total power consumption at the Porvoo facilities, the chemicals group said on Wednesday.

Power deliveries are slated to begin around the middle of 2022.

The PPAs also support Borealis Group’s target of sourcing from renewables at least 50% of the electricity demand of its Hydrocarbon & Energy and Polyolefins businesses by 2030 and are in line with its 2045 carbon neutrality objective.
