Boralex inks 5-year PPA with IBM in France

Canadian renewables developer Boralex Inc (TSE:BLX) today said it has inked a five-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with IBM (NYSE:IBM) for the US tech giant's operations in France.

The contract, which is in effect as of January 1, covers renewable power that covers 55% of IBM's annual demand for its sites and data centres in France.

Boralex will supply the agreed power from wind farms in its portfolio whose contracts with French utility EDF (EPA:EDF) have expired. Axpo Solutions, part of Swiss renewable power producer Axpo, will aggregate the power agreed in the PPA.

The contract is part of IBM's strategy aimed at sourcing 100% of the electricity it uses in France from renewable energy. The company said earlier in 2021 that it aims to supply 90% of its global power consumption from renewable sources by 2030.
