Bombora wins marine licence for wave demo in Wales

Bombora Wave Power Pty Ltd has recently secured full consent to deploy and test its 1.5-MW mWave wave energy converter off the coast of Pembrokeshire in Wales.

The Western Australia-based company has obtained the green light for both its on-shore and off-shore licence applications related to the demonstration project, which was backed with a GBP-10.3-million (USD 13.2m/EUR 12m) grant by the European Regional Development Fund in 2018.

Bombora said that this is the first marine licence to be granted for a wave power project in Wales and noted that it is currently mid-way through the process of designing, building, deploying, testing and validating a 1.5-MW device.
