Throughout May, the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) will be accepting comments to inform the preparation of the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the Revolution Wind project offshore Rhode Island and Massachusetts.
BOEM announced on Thursday a Notice of Intent (NOI) to prepare an EIS for the Construction and Operations Plan (COP) submitted for the offshore wind project, developed by Ørsted A/S (CPH:ORSTED) and Eversource Energy (NYSE:ES) through Revolution Wind LLC. The NOI opened a 30-day public comment period with a deadline of June 1.
The purpose of the scoping process launched by BOEM is to identify what should be considered in the EIS. As part of it, the agency will hold three virtual meetings on May 13, 18 and 20.
If Revolution Wind is given the green light, an offshore wind farm of between 704 MW and 880 MW will be installed 17.4 nautical miles (20 statute miles) south of Rhode Island. It will have 100 turbines, up to two offshore substations and up to two export cables.
The joint-venture partners behind the project earlier in April announced an advanced foundation component facility at ProvPort in Rhode Island, to support Revolution Wind and other projects. Ørsted and Eversource have at least 1,700 MW of offshore wind under development, across Revolution Wind, serving Rhode Island and Connecticut; the 132-MW South Fork Wind, serving Long Island; and the 924-MW Sunrise Wind project, serving New York.
