Boeing teams up with Hawai'i BioEnergy on jet biofuel

Nov 11, 2011 - US aircraft maker Boeing (NYSE:BA) said yesterday it was teaming up with Hawai'i BioEnergy to work on options for the production of renewable aviation fuel in Hawaii.

The companies have signed a memorandum of understanding to cooperate on identifying suitable renewable sources and technologies. They will study a number of crops such as sorghum and eucalyptus that can be grown in the area as well as evaluate new supporting technologies for producing jet biofuel.

"As an Asia Pacific gateway and leading tourism destination, Hawaii can play a meaningful role in helping aviation reduce carbon emissions, while increasing regional energy resources," Billy Glover of Boeing said.

Hawai'i BioEnergy is a main supplier of renewable energy to the Hawaiian Electric Company.
