Danish steel contractor Bladt Industries A/S said on Friday it has been selected to deliver the monopiles and transitions pieces for Parkwind NV’s 219-MW Northwester 2 wind project in the Belgian North Sea.
Bladt will supply 23 monopiles and transition pieces for the wind farm’s MHI Vestas V164-9.5 MW turbines. Separately, Bladt will deliver one monopile and a transition piece foundation for the project’s substation. In May, the company secured a turnkey contract to supply an offshore substation for the project, which it plans to deliver in the third quarter of 2019.
Preliminary work on the foundations will start on November 1 at Bladt's facility in Aalborg, Denmark, where transition pieces will be made, as well. In the meantime, Bladt will collaborate with the project’s engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) contractor Jan De Nul and Parkwind on a design optimisation process aimed at lowering the cost of the foundations.
The Danish steel contractor noted that the contracts are in line with its strategy to offer One-Stop-Shop solutions featuring a combined delivery of monopiles, transitions pieces, jacket foundations and substations for offshore wind projects.
