November 9 (Renewables Now) - Wind turbine blade maker LM Wind Power, part of General Electric Co (NYSE:GE), on Thursday inaugurated a research facility near New Orleans in Louisiana.
The Technology Center Americas facility, located on the NASA Michoud campus, was previously part of Blade Dynamics, which was acquired by GE in 2015. Blade Dynamics was combined with LM Wind Power earlier in 2018 following GE's acquisition of LM Wind in 2017.
LM Wind is to expand the facility, hiring up to 100 new employees in addition to the 50 existing jobs at the site by 2021.
The new facility will serve the fast-growing US wind power market, developing and testing methods for the design and construction of wind turbine blades.
"Our customers rely on us to push the research envelope to make blades lighter, stronger, and more affordable," said LM Wind chief executive Duncan Berry. "This new Technology Center gives us a local base from which to support our customers in the Americas as well as to partner with world-class researchers from the US Department of Energy and elsewhere in the US," Berry added.
