Chemicals co LyondellBasell seals 1st US renewable PPAs for 216 MW
Jun 29, 2022 15:32 CESTMarch 10 (Renewables Now) - BHE Canada, a unit of billionaire Warren Buffet’s Berkshire Hathaway Energy, will sell electricity from its 130-MW Rattlesnake Ridge wind project in Alberta under three corporate power off-take deals.
The power purchase agreements (PPAs) were signed with Royal Bank of Canada (TSE:RY-G), green energy retailer Bullfrog Power Inc and e-commerce company Shopify Inc (TSE:SHOP), enabling each of them to get environmental attributes to meet their environmental goals and mitigate existing carbon production. BHE Canada said on Thursday it expects to fully contract the wind farm’s output before the plant goes online.

The group will purchase a total of 90,000 MWh per year, with each buyer receiving equal thirds through their respective PPAs.
Currently under construction in southeastern Alberta, the Rattlesnake Ridge wind farm will be equipped with 26 Siemens Gamesa turbines, which are planned to be hooked to the grid by May 2022.
BHE Canada financed the CAD-200-million (USD 155.9m/EUR 140.7m) project with a combination of debt and equity. No government subsidies or tax incentives will be used to support the wind farm’s operation.
The Canadian company noted it is continuing to pursue additional renewable energy projects to invest in.
