Belgian Electrawinds commissions wind farm in Bulgaria

Jan 27, 2012 - Belgian renewable energy company Electrawinds said yesterday it has put on stream its first wind farm in Bulgaria, following an investment of EUR 11.4 million (USD 15m).

The wind farm is located in Shabla, on the Black Sea coast, and consists of eight wind turbines with a combined output of 15,700 MWh a year, which is sufficient to cover the energy needs of 4,500 households.

Electrawinds started construction works in June 2011. The project is in line with its strategy to expand its activities to eastern Europe.

The company has filed meanwhile a number of permit applications in Bulgaria, Serbia, Romania and Poland, while exploring for potential locations. In Serbia, Electrawinds has already started the construction of its first biomass plant outside Belgium.
