BDI BioEnergy to work on US biodiesel plant expansion project

Oct 20, 2014 - Austrian firm BDI Bioenergy International AG (ETR:D7I) said today it had received an order to modernise and expand an existing biodiesel facility in the US state of California.

The Austrian biodiesel plants builder won the contract from US transportation fuels producer Crimson Renewable Energy LP. It did not disclose the value of the order, but mentioned it is in “the lower single-digit million euro range”.

Under the terms of the deal, BDI will deliver engineering services and equipment for certain process phases in a drive to boost the Bakersfield facility’s annual production capacity to 75,000 tonnes. The project will also allow for waste materials to be processed more efficiently and sustainably into biodiesel transportation fuel, BDI noted.

In July, the California Energy Commission proposed to award total of USD 43.6 million (EUR 34m) in financing to support 11 renewable fuels and biomethane projects in the state, including a USD-5-million grant for Crimson’s Bakersfield biodiesel plant expansion.
