BayWa r.e. renewable energy GmbH has entered an exclusive agreement to join France’s Ideol and Belgian offshore wind developer Elicio in their bid in a recently launched round for offshore wind capacity in Scotland.
The ScotWind Leasing round kicked off at the start of June and is the first in a series of offshore wind solicitations that will seek to award up to 10 GW of capacity. They will support the country’s goal to become net-zero by 2045.
The renewables arm of German diversified group BayWa AG (ETR:BYW6) has 890 MW of onshore wind projects under management in Scotland. By taking part in the Ideol-Elicio consortium, the company says it will provide its project development and asset management skills, as well as a presence in Scotland.
French floating foundations specialist Ideol and Belgium's Elicio announced last year they will work together on floating wind projects in Scottish waters, including a proposal for the ScotWind Leasing round.
“Our commitment to growing in the Scottish onshore wind market is clear after our first decade of project realisation. We now look forward to moving into Scottish offshore waters in the next decade and creating further jobs and value for the local supply chain,” said Matthias Taft, CEO of BayWa r.e.
