Aug 14, 2014 - The renewables arm of UK land developer Banks Group said on Tuesday it is getting ready to file in October a planning application for the up to 88.4-MW Lethans wind project in southwestern Scotland.
The GBP-105-million (USD 175m/EUR 131m) Lethans scheme envisages the installation of 26 turbines to the east of New Cumnock. According to the project page on the Banks’ website, construction work on the scheme is expected to begin in the summer of 2017 and the wind park is seen to become operational in early 2019.
Banks Renewables has concluded all the technical and environmental studies related to the scheme and is currently preparing the planning application to the Scottish Government Energy Consents Unit.
The company also said it will hold public events on August 20 and August 21 to present the project to the East Ayrshire and Upper Nithsdale residents. Locals will also have the chance to discuss the development of Lethans’ sister site at these events, namely the up to 27.2-MW High Cumnock wind project.
Banks Renewables intends to allocate 2.5% of the wind farm revenues for the local community. The total amount for the 25-year lifespan is estimated at up to GBP 15 million.
