Ballast Nedam to deploy Svanen vessel in London Array project
Aug 17, 2011 - Dutch builder Ballast Nedam (AMS:BALNE) said today it has sealed a deal for its heavy lift vessel Svanen to provide services for the London Array offshore windfarm project from mid-August.
Financial details were not disclosed.
The vessel will be used along with other vessels, which are currently installing foundations for the project's first phase. Ballast Nedam will ship the components via the port of Vlissingen in the Netherlands.
The London Array will be built in the outer Thames Estuary in the UK. With a 1,000-MW capacity, it is expected to become the world's largest offshore wind farm.
Danish state-owned utility Dong Energy owns 50% of the project, German utility E.on (ETR:EOAN) holds a 30% stake, while the remaining 20% belong to Abu Dhabi-based investment firm Masdar.
