August 10 (Renewables Now) - Balfour Beatty plc (LON: BBY) will build the onshore substation for Ørsted A/S' (CPH:ORSTED) 1.4-GW Hornsea Project Two offshore wind project in the UK under a "multi-million pound" contract with the Danish offshore wind developer.

The UK infrastructure group will construct a new onshore substation facility and will also deliver the mechanical and electrical services for the new facility. It is now set to start works to the main build after enabling works earlier this year. Completion is expected in 2020.

Hornsea Two, located off the east coast of England, will become the world's largest offshore wind farm when operational in 2022, eclipsing its sister project Hornsea Project One.

Balfour Beatty also built the onshore substation for Hornsea One on the adjacent site. "Their team is already on site having nearly finished Hornsea Project One’s substation, and having this continuity of the team will ensure optimum efficiencies," said Duncan Clark, programme director for Hornsea Projects One and Two.
