Sep 8 (Renewables Now) - US firm Aztech Geothermal has been selected as the first indoor installation partner of Dandelion, an Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) spin-off that provides home geothermal systems.
The two companies will work to complete all of Dandelion’s installations for 2017 in the initial regions of the New York Capital Region and Hudson Valley, Dandelion said Thursday. The company, previously part of Alphabet’s X “moonshot factory”, offers to homeowners low-cost geothermal systems for cooling and heating. Qualifying homes can get such a system, including a smart thermostat, for a zero down payment.
As part of the collaboration, Aztech Geothermal will take care of all home inspections, system designs and installation of geothermal heat pumps.
Dandelion in July completed a USD-2-million (EUR 1.7m) seed round that enabled it to start sales and operations. The firm said at the time that its offering will cost consumers about half of what geothermal installations have cost to date and will be less expensive than fuel oil or propane heating.
