Axpo signs PPA to buy power from 50-MW UK energy-from-waste plant

Swiss renewables producer and marketer Axpo Holding AG said today its subsidiary Axpo UK Ltd has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) to buy the output of a new 50-MW energy-from-waste plant in England.

The deal is with Slough Multifuel Ltd, a joint venture between SSE Thermal, part of energy company SSE plc (LON:SSE), and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP). It covers the electricity produced during the plant’s commissioning period and a 15-year period after that.

The Slough Multifuel energy-from-waste facility is currently under construction at the Slough Heat and Power site on the Slough Trading Estate in Berkshire. According to the project’s most recent newsletter, construction is expected to be completed in 2024.

Under the PPA, Axpo said it will manage all exports of power to the public distribution network and will also allow the plant to sell power and heat to local consumers, taking advantage of its location in an area with large industrial users.
