Axpo inks off-take deal for 82-MW Belgian wind farm

Swiss energy utility Axpo Holding AG said on Thursday it has agreed to buy the entire electricity generated by an 82-MW onshore wind farm in Belgium.

Through its Belgian arm, Axpo Benelux, the Swiss group has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with the power plant’s owner CGN Europe Energy. The off-take deal is tied to an 11-turbine wind park in Estinnes, in the region of Wallonia. The output of the plant, which Axpo says is the largest onshore wind park in Belgium, is around 150 GWh per year.

The duration of the PPA was not given.

Axpo Benelux will market the purchased electricity on the national power market. The company will also provide market access and production forecast services for the wind farm to CGN.

“PPAs for onshore wind farms continue to be one of the most important growth areas for Axpo in many countries across the continent,” the Swiss group said.
