Australia kicks off dumping probe into Chinese, Korean wind towers

Sep 3, 2013 - Australia’s Anti-Dumping Commissioner last week unveiled the start of a probe into wind tower imports from China and South Korea in a response to dumping accusations by the local industry.

In a statement on August 28 the Anti-Dumping Commission said it would investigate imports that happened between January 1, 2012 and June 30, 2013.

The move was provoked by an official complaint by local wind turbine tower makers Keppel Prince Engineering Pty Ltd and Haywards. These two firms claim that Chinese and Korean towers are coming to Australia at prices below the product’s nominal value. According to Keppel and Haywards that situation is harming the business of domestic tower manufacturers, resulting in reduced profits and sales, loss of market share and pricing pressure.

If the probe confirms that Chinese and Korean wind tower imports affect local producers, the Anti-Dumping Commission may impose interim punitive levies.
