Atlantis finalises horizontal directional drilling at MeyGen Phase 1A
Singapore-based Atlantis Resources Ltd (LON:ARL) on Friday announced the completion of all horizontal directional drilling works for the 1.5-MW Phase 1A of the up to 398-MW MeyGen tidal power project in Scotland.
The work has been finalised on time and enables the offshore submarine cable installation to begin this summer, Atlantis, which is the majority owner of MeyGen, said in a statement.
The project company has drilled four bore holes at a distance of 570 meters (1,870 ft) underground to within two metres of their exit target offshore, it explained.
The MeyGen complex is planned for the Inner Sound development zone of Scotland’s Pentland Firth. The 6-MW demonstration Phase 1 array will be powered by four turbines of 1.5 MW, while the entire complex will comprise 269 turbines. The whole project is seen to be completed by the early 2020s.
