Atlantis achieves full power generation from 1st MeyGen turbine

Having produced first power in mid-November, the first Andritz Hydro Hammerfest (AHH) turbine at the MeyGen free stream tidal project in Scotland is now operating at full power, Atlantis Resources Ltd (LON:ARL) said today.
The company explained in a statement that each MeyGen turbine operates at its full capacity of 1.5 MW when the water speed reaches just above 3 metres per second, or about six knots of flow.
“This will be one of many milestones to come as we now build on this successful start and continue to roll out the world’s largest tidal power array,” said MeyGen project director, David Taaffe.
The AHH machine is the first out of four 1.5-MW turbines that will be installed as part of Phase 1A of the 398-MW tidal power project. Atlantis said previously that it expects to start construction work on the next 6-MW phase in 2017.
