Areva to set up wind turbines plant in Le Havre - report
Sep 29, 2011 - French nuclear group Areva (EPA:AREVA) plans to set up a plant for the construction of wind turbines near the port in Le Havre, north-western France, business daily Les Echos reported today.
The investment may be carried out by 2015-2016 and will lead to the creation of some 1,000 new jobs.
The plant will work mainly for the French market but Areva hopes to be able to offer its wind power capacity in the UK as well.
According to Jean Huby, director of Areva's wind power business, Le Havre has a number of advantages, namely its geographical location, its strong logistic activity and its solid industrial tradition.
Earlier this year, Areva announced it had teamed up with Spanish renewable energy group Iberdrola Renovables (MCE:IBR) to participate in the first stage of the offshore wind power tender called by the French government.
Moreover, the French company has formed partnerships with French utility GDF Suez (EPA:GSZ) and construction group Vinci (EPA:DG).
