Areva, LLT to build co-generation biomass plant in France
Sep 16, 2011 - French nuclear group Areva (EPA:AREVA) and industrial boiler supplier Leroux & Lotz Technologies (LLT) have won a EUR-45-million (USD 62m) turnkey contract to build a co-generation biomass plant at the Tricastin nuclear site in Pierrelatte, southern France, Areva said earlier this week.
The contract was awarded by district heating network operator Coriance.
Areva will be in charge of designing, building, installing and commissioning the biomass plant. The company will also provide all the necessary equipment with the exception of the boiler which will be delivered by LLT.
The biomass unit will produce 12 MW of electricity and will generate up to 15 MWth of heat for the city of Pierrelatte and the Tricastin nuclear site.
The new plant will begin commercial operation in the fourth quarter of 2012.
