Archaea agrees 2nd RNG supply deal with Energir

Gas pipelines

August 15 (Renewables Now) - US renewable natural gas (RNG) producer Archaea Energy Inc (NYSE:LFG) on Monday unveiled an agreement to sell 2.15 million gigajoules, or about 2.04 million MMBtu, of RNG a year to Quebec natural gas distribution company Energir LP.

This is the second long-term contract between the companies, expanding their partnership.

Under the agreement, which needs regulatory approval from the Quebec Regie de l'energie, Archaea will supply RNG from its portfolio of facilities for a fixed fee over 20 years, starting in October 2023. Archaea’s RNG is expected to play a key role in Energir achieving its targets of RNG accounting for 2% of its annual natural gas volumes by 2023 and 5% by 2025.

Brian McCarthy, Archaea’s co-founder and chief financial office, said the company is capable of offering long-term, fixed-price agreements that can scale with the growing needs of its customers thanks to its RNG development backlog, including projects related to its joint venture with Republic Services and recently completed acquisition of NextGen Power Holdings LLC (INGENCO).
