Application for CHF-32m wind park filed by Swiss utility

A utility in Switzerland and two local partners plan to invest CHF 32 million (USD 32.4m/EUR 29.5m) in the first wind project in the southern canton of Ticino.

Azienda Elettrica Ticinese (AET) said Tuesday it has filed the planning application for the 11.75-MW wind park. The plan is to start work in the spring of 2017 and have the wind farm completed in the autumn of 2018. The wind farm will have five turbines of 2.35 MW each, to be installed on the St Gotthard Pass in the Alps at an altitude of 2,130 metres. It is expected to produce 20 GWh annually.

AET holds a 70% stake in the project company, Parco eolico del San Gottardo SA. Servizi Industriali di Ginevra (SIG) and the Airolo municipality will own 25% and 5%, respectively.

Plans for the project were first presented in 2007.
