Apex scales back Ohio wind project to 300 MW - report

Apex Clean Energy has trimmed its Honey Creek wind project in Ohio to 300 MW and will file a planning application in the middle of next year, the Bucyrus Telegraph reports.

Carmen O'Keefe, development manager for the project, has told the newspaper that the company will look to obtain permission in 2023 and launch commercial operations a year later. Initially, it expected to be able to lodge a planning application with the Ohio Power Siting Board by end-2021.

Apex has reduced the overall turbine count of the scheme, thus lowering its capacity from 360 MW. Its updated plan calls for the installation of around 60 turbines, instead of 75, each with a hub height of between 590ft and 670ft. The machines will be sited only in Ohio’s Crawford county, while some of them were initially intended to be located in Seneca county, as well.

The developer's field manager for Ohio Tyler Fehrman was quoted as saying that the proposal has faced strong opposition in Seneca county and approval was not seen to be granted there. He added that the company is considering options to extend the scheme into Wyandot County.
