Vestas Wind Systems A/S (CPH:VWS) has clinched a deal to supply 300 MW of wind turbine generators for a project being developed in Illinois by US-based Apex Clean Energy LLC.
The scope of the contract, the value of which was not disclosed, covers the delivery and commissioning of 50 units of the EnVentus platform V162-6.2 MW machines, which Vestas will supply in a 6-MW operating mode. A 10-year Active Output Management 5000 (AOM 5000) service agreement is also part of the order, the Danish manufacturer said on Wednesday.
The hardware will be installed at the Goose Creek Wind project in Illinois’ Piatt County. The power plant will cover around 20,000 acres (8,100 hectares) of open farmland in rural Piatt County and will be capable of generating electricity for 99,000 local homes annually, once in operation. The scheme will require an investment of around USD 500 million (EUR 496.1m), Apex estimates, with tax revenue and landowner payments seen at around USD 200 million.
Vestas expects to deliver the equipment in the third quarter of 2023 and bring the machines online in the closing quarter of the same year.
