US fast-food giant McDonald's Corporation (NYSE:MCD) has signed off-take deals for 326 MW of wind power capacity in Oklahoma and Illinois.
The electricity will be bought under two separate power purchase agreements (PPAs) with Apex Clean Energy, the latter announced on Monday. More specifically, the restaurant chain will buy the output from a 200-MW portion of the 303-MW Caddo wind farm in Oklahoma, which is currently owned by Allete Clean Energy. The 110-turbine complex is due to become operational late next year.

Additionally, McDonald’s will buy 126 MW of wind power produced by the 300-MW Lincoln Land wind park in Illinois’ Morgan County. The Apex-developed project, planned to go live in late 2021 as well, is now fully contracted.
McDonald’s targets a 36% reduction of the greenhouse gas emissions related to its restaurants and offices by 2030 from a 2015 baseline. Last year, it committed to buying electricity from 220 MW of wind turbine capacity coming from Apex-developed projects in Texas. The contracted power plants, owned by Consumers Energy, Kansai Electric, and Ares Management Corporation’s Infrastructure and Power, were switched on in September.
