US renewable energy company Apex Clean Energy said Monday it has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) for 41.4 MW of its 150-MW Grant Plains Wind project in Oklahoma.
Oklahoma Municipal Power Authority (OMPA), which supplies power to 42 member cities, has agreed to buy wind generation from the project. It said the PPA would increase its wind power portfolio from 100.2 MW to 141.6 MW in 2020 for its system of about 800 MW.
Grant Plains Wind is scheduled to become operational in 2016. It is located next to the Grant Wind facility of the same size and is expected to produce enough electricity to power some 56,000 homes.
Apex says it is constructing a 12-GW portfolio of renewable energy resources and this year is bringing five US wind power plants online, totalling 1,161 MW.
