Another fuel-cell Bloom Box goes live in California

(ADPnews) - Sep 28, 2010 - US graphic-design software maker Adobe Systems Inc (NASDAQ:ADBE) said Tuesday that it and domestic fuel cell maker Bloom Energy had completed a fuel cell installation at Adobe's headquarters in San Jose, California.

The project is expected to cover one-third of the building's power needs as part of Adobe's strategy to cut carbon emissions and lower energy expenses.

The facility consists of 12 Bloom Energy servers, or Bloom boxes, each containing thousands of fuel cells, which turn air and biogas into energy through an electrochemical process without any carbon emissions. The energy output of one server is enough to power about 100 US households, Adobe said.

This is the second major green energy project of Adobe, after it had 20 wind turbines installed near the end of 2009. The company plans to scale down its carbon footprint by some 121.5 million pounds (55 million kg) for 10 years, or as much as 1,810 compact cars would generate for a year.
