December 30 (Renewables Now) - Amtech Systems Inc (NASDAQ:ASYS) expects to finalise the sale of its Tempress solar business in January, which will mark its exit from the photovoltaic (PV) segment.

The capital equipment manufacturer said on Friday it is now completing the final steps to divest Dutch diffusion furnace systems maker Tempress Holding BV so that it can focus on the power semiconductor and silicon carbide markets.

Tempress develops, produces and services advanced production systems for the solar cell and semiconductor industry, supplying diffusion and furnaces for PV cell manufacturing.

The divestment is the last step of Amtech’s previously announced plan to offload its entire solar business and follows the sale of SoLayTec, which is active in the development, supply and servicing of machines for atomic layer deposition (ALD) on solar cells.

“We are confident that with the solar divestitures, we are well-positioned to realise profitable growth and enhance value for all stakeholders," commented executive chairman and CEO J S Whang.
