Amec Foster Wheeler Plc (LON:AMFW) will deliver a 158-MW steam generator for the Kymijarvi III biofuelled heating plant in Lahti, Finland.
The company said today it has been contracted by Lahti Energia Oy to design and supply the thermal circulating fluidized-bed (CFB) generator with auxiliary equipment. The deal also includes assembly and commissioning.
The generator will be a multi-fuel one. It will burn up to 100% biomass, mainly wood chips from forest residues and forest industry by-products, and will be also able to use peat and coal as additional or alternative fuels.
Tomas Harju-Jeanty, president Amec Foster Wheeler Energia Group, said Lahti Energia has used Amec Foster Wheeler technologies and services at the Kymijarvi power plant for many year.
Late last year the Nordic Investment Bank (NIB) announced a loan for the Kymijarvi III project, which will replace the existing 350-MW coal-fired plant Kymijarvi I.
