Amazon seals 3rd wind PPA in Ireland

Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) has secured another renewable power purchase agreement (PPA) in Ireland, where it has now contracted a total of 229 MW of wind power generating capacity.

Specifically, Amazon Web Services (AWS) will buy power from the 115-MW Ardderroo wind project in County Galway to operate its local data centres. The up-to-27-turbine site is expected to begin operations in 2022.

Over the course of last year, Amazon announced two other wind PPAs in Ireland. In April 2019, it said it will buy electricity from the 91.2-MW wind farm in Donegal and in August unveiled a commitment to a 23.2-MW wind project in County Cork.

These contracts are part of Amazon’s efforts to fully run its global operations on renewables by 2025.
