January 31 (Renewables Now) - AEP Renewables has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) for the output of its 128-MW Flat Ridge 3 wind project in Kansas.

Under the long-term deal, the power generated by the wind farm will be sold to investor-owned utility Evergy Inc (NYSE:EVRG), the renewables arm of American Electric Power Company Inc (NYSE:AEP) said on Thursday.

To be installed near Kingman, the wind park will be powered by 62 turbines that are expected to go live by the end of this year. This project, the developer estimates, will bring more than USD 20 million (EUR 18.1m) in economic development to the surrounding area, with its construction seen to provide jobs to around 200 people.

AEP Renewables said that the new deal will lift its portfolio of contracted renewable energy projects to 1,430 MW. The power group currently owns and operates 1,300 MW of wind, solar and energy storage assets across 11 US states.
