Active Energy, Solariant to roll out CoalSwitch in Asia

Active Energy Group Plc (LON:AEG) today said it will partner with a subsidiary of Solariant Capital LLC to roll out commercially its biomass CoalSwitch plants in South East Asia.

The agreement is between Active Energy's affiliate company Advanced Biomass Solutions Plc (ABS) and California-based Lumino Capital LLC, and will see the partners finance, develop and operate an initial eight CoalSwitch plants in Vietnam, the Philippines and other countries in the region. Together, the plants are expected to produce about 1.5 million tonnes of CoalSwitch, a biomass pellet suitable for use as a drop-in replacement for coal in coal-fired power stations, per year. Active Energy said the deal is the first commercial endorsement of the CoalSwitch product.

Lumino will raise finance, as well as source woody biomass and agree off-take contracts, while ABS will provide the technology and plant construction.
