Spain’s Acciona Energia (BME:ANE) has signed a 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Queensland government-owned energy group Stanwell Corp to deliver 150 MW from the gigawatt-scale MacIntyre wind farm in Australia.
The contract, which will run from 2025 to 2040, gives Queensland's major commercial and industrial businesses access to affordable renewable energy, Acciona Energia said today.
The company's 70%-owned MacIntyre wind farm is part of the 1,026-MW MacIntyre Wind Precinct, which also includes the 108-MW Karara wind farm owned by utility CleanCo.
In addition to this new PPA, the Spanish company previously inked a ten-year PPA with CleanCo for 400 MW of the MacIntyre wind farm.
The two PPAs will be covered with the production that corresponds to Acciona Energia's share of the plant. Ark Energy Corp Pty Ltd, a subsidiary of Korea Zinc Co Ltd (KRX:010130), owns the remaining 30%.
The AUD-2-billion (USD 1.29bn/EUR 1.29bn) MacIntyre Wind Precinct is expected to be commissioned in 2025. Once up and running, it should be capable of powering the equivalent of 700,000 homes, the firm noted.
