September 28 (Renewables Now) - Acciona Energia (BME:ANE) said on Wednesday that it has signed a ten-year power purchase agreement (PPA) to supply 100% renewable energy to data centre operator Interxion in Spain.
The arrangement will see the Spanish renewables company supply more than 65 GWh per year to power Interxion’s three data centres in Spain. Also included in the agreement is the extra supply of power reserved for a new data centre that Interxion is building in Madrid and to cover for a demand increase by its campus in the Spanish capital.
Acciona Energia will not build new renewable energy facilities for this PPA. The contracted supply will be sourced from the company’s existing power plants throughout Spain, and certified as 100% renewable.
For Acciona Energia, this type of arrangement is part of its strategy to monetise older generation assets by tying them to medium- and long-term corporate PPAs as the plants reach the end of their regulatory life.
