January 17 (Renewables Now) - Spain’s Acciona SA (BME:ANA) announced today it has completed the repowering of a 30-MW wind farm in Cadiz province.

The company's energy arm, Acciona Energia, has replaced 90 units of 330-kW wind turbines installed 23 years ago with 12 new Nordex machines. This includes eight 3-MW N100/3000 and four 1.5-MW AW70/1500.

The repowered El Cabrito plant, as it is named, is now capable of generating 16% more energy while keeping the same capacity. It is expected to produce an average of 112 GWh per year, enough to meet the consumption of around 30,000 homes and offset 107,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions annually.

Apart from replacing the turbines, the company also adapted the access track, remodelled roadways and laid cables, while also restoring and revegetating the area, it noted.
