ABB wins USD-30m tech supply order for East Anglia One

ABB (VTX:ABBN) said on Wednesday it has won a USD-30-million (EUR 26m) contract for the supply of SVC Light Static Compensators (STATCOMs) that will support the integration of offshore wind energy in the UK.

Specifically, the Switzerland-based power and automation technology company will supply two such units to enable voltage stabilisation and enhanced power quality for ScottishPower Renewables’ 714-MW East Anglia One offshore wind farm in the UK. The STATCOM system will incorporate two advanced ABB TrafoStar auto-transformers.

ABB noted it has secured the contract in the second quarter of 2017.

The 102-turbine East Anglia One offshore wind park is being built off the Suffolk Coast in the southern North Sea. The project represents an investment of GBP 2.5 billion (USD 3.3bn/EUR 2.8bn).
