Swiss industrial group ABB Ltd (VTX:ABBN) said today it has commissioned and handed over the 800-MW DolWin1 offshore wind grid connection in the German North Sea to client TenneT.
This is the fifth high voltage direct current (HVDC) link brought online for TenneT this year. Together, they achieve a transmission capacity of some 4,300 MW, the Dutch-German transmission system operator said in a separate statement. As a result, TenneT has fulfilled two-thirds of the government's expansion targets of 6,500 MW by 2020.
Two offshore wind farms, the 215-MW Borkum West II and 312-MW Borkum Riffgrund I, are currently hooked to the DolWin alpha offshore converter station.
ABB’s scope of work included the design, engineering supply and installation of the offshore and onshore converter stations along with the submarine and underground cable systems.
