(SeeNews) - Dec 12, 2012 - So far in 2012 the Port of Aalborg in Denmark has transported record-many 570 wind turbine blades from Siemens Wind Power's Aalborg plant, up by 45% from 2011, according to the latest edition of the port's magazine transPORT, published on Friday.
The number of wind turbine blades shipped via the port is expected to continue growing in 2013 and 2014.
Most of the blades were designated for wind projects in England and Ireland, but some shipments were also made to Sweden. A total 38 vessels, with a length of 90 m (295 ft) and a width of 14 m each, have been used.
In June a blade storage area of some 25,000 sq m (269,100 sq ft) was opened at the entrance of the port's eastern harbour. Another two sites with a combined area of 100,000 sq m are planned.
