WMECo wraps up 1.8 MW solar project in Massachusetts
(ADPnews) - Oct 27, 2010 - Western Massachusetts Electric Company (WMECo), part of Northeast Utilities System (NYSE:NU), said on Tuesday it had completed a 1.8-MW solar power plant in the US state of Massachusetts.
The facility is part of the company's programme for the construction of 6 MW of solar power plants in the next two years.
The solar array, located in Pittsfield, is jointly owned by WMECo and the Pittsfield Economic Development Authority. It includes 6,500 solar panels covering eight acres (3.2 ha) of land and generating electricity enough to supply 300 households, according to WMECo.
The project is expected to yield USD 150,000 (EUR 108,500) in property tax revenues a year to Pittsfield.
