Jun 25, 2013 - The WindMade organisation yesterday said it had introduced a label for global consumer products manufactured with at least 75% of renewable power, where wind has to be have the biggest share.
"The WindMade product label provides consumers with the transparency they demand, and with a credible and intuitive tool to make informed purchasing decisions", WindMade's CEO Henrik Kuffner said.
In addition, the organisation kicked off the Show You Care campaign, seeking to show producers of leading brands that customers want certain products to be made using renewable energy. Via the initiative, consumers will be able to encourage their favourite brands to use clean energy in the manufacturing process, according to WindMade's communications director Angelika Pullen, who is also the campaign's manager.
The WindMade standard was introduced in 2011 as the first global consumer label for companies using wind energy. In order to market products under the WindMade label at least 25% of a company's electricity has to come from wind energy. The initiative is supported by the United Nations (UN) Global Compact, the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), Danish toy maker Lego, accounting services provider PricewaterhouseCoopers, Bloomberg and Danish wind turbine major Vestas (CPH:VWS).
