Windar secures EUR 0.5m EUDP grant for LiDAR project

December 19 (Renewables Now) - Windar Photonics Plc (LON:WPHO), a Danish company offering LiDAR wind sensors for wind turbines, on Thursday announced a EUR-0.5-million (USD 0.55m) grant from the Danish Energy Technology Development and Demonstration Program (EUDP).

The awarded development funding will support a project that will demonstrate LiDAR-assisted wind turbine control strategies for improvements on both currently operating and new wind turbines.

Total grants for the project stand at EUR 1.4 million, including funding from the Technical University of Denmark and a European wind turbine manufacturer, Windar said.

As a result of the project, the company expects to expand its portfolio of LiDAR-assisted control-related offerings for the retrofit market for onshore and offshore applications. The wind turbine maker that participates in the project is also expected to use LiDAR-assisted control in new turbine designs.
