Wind represents 16.4% of Lithuania’s power output in Jan-Sep

Oct 7, 2014 - Wind farms in Lithuania have produced 366.4 GWh of electricity in January-September, being responsible for 16.4% of the country’s total power.

Wind power generation in the first nine months of the year was 19.3% higher than in the same period of 2013, data by power transmission system operator Litgrid shows. The country currently has 17 operational wind farms with a combined capacity of 282 MW. Their output normally goes up in the last quarter of the year due to stronger winds. For comparison, in the fourth quarter of 2013, wind power production in Lithuania amounted to 292.9 GWh, or 48.8% of the country's annual wind output.

In total, Lithuania’s power plants generated 2,231.1 GWh of electricity in the first nine months of 2014, down 13.2% in annual terms.
