Wind power generation in Ireland hits record 1,564 MW on Nov 20

Nov 21, 2013 - Ireland’s wind power generation reached record-high 1,564 MW at 0800 AM local time on November 20, according to the Irish Wind Energy Association (IWEA).

In a statement on Wednesday the association said that the output was enough to supply over one million local households. IWEA cited figures from EirGrid, which monitors power production and consumption in the country, showing that the record wind generation accounted for more than 45% of Ireland’s power needs at that hour.

The wind power segment in Ireland currently provides jobs to over 3,400 people, IWEA’s chief executive Kenneth Matthews noted.

In October IWEA said that the onshore wind energy sector in Ireland could attract EUR 4.7 billion (USD 6.3bn) in investment by 2020.
