July 03 (Renewables Now) - Wind's share in total power generation in the UK reached 12.01% on July 01 with 72,425 MWh produced.
Overall electricity generation for the day stood at 602,992 MWh, data by Elexon, the Balancing and Settlement Code Company (BSCCo) show. Biomass power accounted for 4.91% of the total output with 29,606 MWh generated.
See below where country’s power came from on that date.
|Energy source||Power output in MWh||Share in %|
|Combined cycle gas turbines (CCGT)||311,960||51.74|
|Pumped storage hydro||4,813||0.80|
|Other hydro (NPSHYD)||2,519||0.42|
In the first quarter of 2018, the share of renewables in overall generation was 30.1%, compared to 27% a year back. The increase came on the back of capacity additions, especially in onshore and offshore wind, and higher wind speeds.
