Western Wind Energy opens 10.5-MW wind, solar plant in Arizona

Sep 19, 2011 - Canadian green power producer Western Wind Energy (CVE:WND) yesterday announced the start of commercial operations at its 10.5-MW Kingman I combined wind and solar project in the US state of Arizona.

The system includes five Gamesa wind turbines of 2 MW each and 500 kW of solar panels on a single axis tracking system.

Local utility Unisource Energy Services, a subsidiary of Unisource Energy Corp (NYSE:UNS), will buy the plant's output under a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Western Wind.
