Voltalia begins work on 3.7-MW solar farm in French mountainous commune

Renewable power producer Voltalia SA (EPA:VLTSA) has commenced the construction of a 3.7-MW solar farm in the French mountainous commune of Montclar in Alpes-de-Haute-Provence department.

The 4.2-hectare (10.4 acres) site was secured through a tender for innovative projects held by the Ministry of Ecological Transition, Voltalia announced on Wednesday.

Due to its mountainous location, Voltalia will use an innovative metal structure in order to implement the solar facility. The French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) and the MINES ParisTech school will help Voltalia analyze the benefits of the innovations deployed.

The solar park will consist of 8,600 panels and will be able to generate enough clean electricity to cover the power consumption of more than 2,500 inhabitants of the department. It will benefit from a 20-year electricity sales contract.
